Palace Dar JL
An exclusive private luxury resort in the Palmeraie of Marrakech, set across 14 acres of lush gardens with four private villas, three pools
Details
Dar JL — Domaine JL — is one of Marrakech's most extraordinary private estates, conceived and built as a personal residence by a design-loving Swedish couple who later opened it to the world in 2015. The name itself speaks to its essence: dar meaning manor or estate in Arabic, and JL the initials of the owners. Since opening, it has welcomed international celebrities, royalties, and artists seeking total privacy, breathtaking beauty, and world-class hospitality in one of Morocco's most magical settings.
The domain spans 14 acres — approximately 5.5 hectares — of organic, meticulously maintained gardens in the Palmeraie district, within walking distance of the Marrakech medina yet feeling like an entirely different world. Over 300 olive trees, 750 citrus trees, and 300 palm trees form a natural cathedral of green around the four distinct villas: Dar Jennat (4 suites), Dar Limoon (4 suites), La Tour (2 suites), and Hippie Village (1 suite). Each of the 11 suites draws its design inspiration from a different country or culture — European, Asian, or African — blending authentic Moroccan craftsmanship with contemporary luxury and art.
As a wedding venue, Dar JL is in a category of its own. The estate accommodates up to 100 guests for exceptional wedding celebrations, ideally structured as a full weekend event. Arriving guests are welcomed into what feels like a private country estate in Morocco — the entire property is exclusively theirs. On the first evening, families gather for an intimate dinner in the olive groves or beside the pools. The wedding ceremony itself can be set in the citrus orchards, olive groves, or beside one of the pools, with hundreds of lanterns and candles transforming the estate into a scene from One Thousand and One Nights. The celebration flows into dancing and festivities with no noise restrictions that would apply in the medina. The day after is reserved for a magnificent garden brunch, lawn games, swimming, and relaxed family time.
The kitchen team — chefs trained in Morocco and France — crafts bespoke menus for every meal, combining traditional Moroccan cuisine with international dishes tailored precisely to the couple's vision. Meals are served at different magical locations across the property each day: under a fig tree one morning, by a poolside pergola at lunch, under the stars at dinner.
Beyond weddings, the resort also hosts company events, anniversary celebrations, milestone birthdays, and private retreats. On-site amenities include a tennis court, two swimming pools, a gym, a yoga pavilion, a hammam spa, and a 1.1 km jogging track through the gardens. Each villa has its own private spaces and outdoor areas. A dedicated multilingual team — including a general manager, butler, driver, and chef — is available at all times via a private Moroccan mobile phone provided to each guest on arrival.
Dar JL holds a perfect 5-out-of-5 rating on TripAdvisor based on reviews from guests who consistently describe it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The estate is open year-round, with March and October considered the finest months for weddings in Marrakech.
